In February 2016 we detailed the background to the sacking of the hapless and hopeless Angela Haggerty at the Sunday Herald.

In a baffling turn of events, Haggerty was not only later reinstated, but subsequently promoted by the same publication (much to the chagrin of a number of senior Herald employees). However it was only a matter of time. Haggerty was widely loathed by her colleagues for both her twisted and bigoted viewpoints and the amateur, unprofessional way in which she carried out her duties. As one senior staffer put it "it's bad enough working with a bigot, never mind a useless bigot". Many colleagues quietly questioned her mental state whilst others just couldn't bear to be anywhere near her.

And so it has come to pass; Haggerty is back on the scrapheap. A slow learner – it just didn't seem to sink in that when your talent is questionable and you're promoted way above your natural station, the best thing to do is keep your head down and work hard. The tiresome victim card continued to be played and the hatred was only thinly disguised. That, combined with ineptitude and lack of honesty and integrity (not to mention a plummeting readership) meant the Herald had no choice but to once again jettison her (ignore any "mutual agreement" claims – she was removed). They won't repeat their mistake of re-employing her this time round. Haggerty is now shouldered with the embarrassing and possibly career-destroying fact that she was sacked twice in the space of two years by the same newspaper.

So where next for The Fruit from Bute? She appears frequently on STV’s Scotland Tonight. Her sporadic BBC guest appearances masquerading as some laughable form of social and political commentator may continue, although the state-funded broadcaster would do well to steer clear, lest even more licence payers decide they will no longer spend their hard-earned propping up the moronic utterances of the discredited damsel. She could – like her mentor, the unemployed, unemployable blogger – start her own blog and continue to tout herself as a serious journalist (whilst the truth of the matter is somewhat different). Or she could attempt to re-ingratiate herself with her former pals at the Scottish National Party (having incurred their wrath for revealing the identity of lesbian Mhairi Black's girlfriend) where she'd find herself subject to even more whispering, sniping and disdain than she was at the Herald offices.

One thing Haggerty can't be blamed for is accepting a job she should never have got remotely close to. Before the publication is forced to close its doors completely, Herald & Times Group shareholders need to examine closely who exactly pushed hard to employ Haggerty in the first place.

Only then will they get to the root of their problem.
