Some years ago at a small gathering I had a long chat with a gentleman about Scottish Football. Knowing that he had worked with him previous, I turned the topic of conversation to the CEO of The Club Like No Other.

I opined that said CEO had done a fine job of ensuring the disgraced club had placemen at the SFA, SPL (as it was then) and UEFA, not to mention various newspaper and television platforms. The reply I got from the gentleman came as something of a surprise.

"It will all end in tears" he told me. I asked him to expand. "He's a controlling bully whose conceit and arrogance are only surpassed by his lack of self-awareness and intelligence. His modus operandi will work short-term, but will backfire on him in the long term. They will all turn on him eventually" I was told.

I have to admit that in the years that have passed since, I often thought of this conversation and had come to the conclusion that the gentleman had got it spectacularly wrong. The placemen were still there and the cowardly television executives and newspaper editors were still dancing to the pipers' tune.

It's worth remembering that this CEO is an individual who stooped so low as to use the tragic death of a former player to get a match postponed – and got away with it. The fictitious tours of Japan and the cheap and nasty digs at Rangers went similarly unquestioned. The haranguing of newspaper editors to cover up the drunken stupidity and bigotry of his own son further confirmed his apparent power.

Today my view of the CEO is somewhat different, and it would seem the gentleman's predictions were prophetic.

The first hint of the downfall of the CEO was his disappearing act in light of the greatest scandal in football history. This is a man - who was never short of a statement or six - finding himself out of his depth and losing control.

Then there was the persistence with the "separate entity" embarrassment. Only an astounding level of arrogance could possibly have him believe he would get away with such blatant distortion of the facts.

He wasn't finished there. The letter sent to Professor of Law Adam Tomkins at the weekend defied belief. Witnessing a man who thought himself untouchable humiliate himself so publicly has been a real eye-opener. The sheer stupidity in claiming The Club Like No Other had been conducting a two-year long in-house secret investigation using an unnamed lawyer into an organisation he had for months claimed it had no relationship with or jurisdiction over was a faux pas of epic proportions. The fact that the supposed investigation excluded any input whatsoever from the victims revealed a lack of empathy typical of a narcissist completely out of touch with reality.

The CEO - used to having things all his own way – also displayed a distinct lack of awareness when he failed to consider that London-based TV stations, newspaper editors and journalists may not roll over to his threats quite so readily as their Scottish equivalents. Alex Thomson openly describing a "paedophile ring" operating at Celtic Football Club was telling.

The victims (and their families) of The Club Like No Other's paedophile employees will continue to seek justice with a determination the CEO has never before faced. He would do well to realise that when human beings and their families are so terribly wronged they will be relentless and unstoppable, no matter how long it takes. The Hillsborough campaign is proof-positive. If the CEO continues to persist with the gaping hole he's been digging he'll end up in Australia.

He may also care to consider that this is only the beginning.
